The boys soccer team faced off against the Lebanon Tigers this past Saturday night at Ellison Field at McCutcheon high school in Sectional 7 action. The Raiders defeated Logansport in a come from behind game 2-1, beat Lafayette Jeff in the sectional semis 2-1, and had the task of squaring off against the Tigers in order to capture the sectional title. The Raiders dominated possession and opportunities to score throughout the match. The Tigers were extremely resilient denying the Raiders on several scoring opportunities. The score remained tied 0-0 at the half. The longer the score stayed tied and the game carried on, it looked like we could be headed for potential OT and even PK's. The Raiders remained calm and on task. The Tigers began to wear down and get tired. Finally, with just under 10 minutes to go in the game, the Raiders would breakthrough. Brady Koutsouros located and passed a ball to Simon Ailor to begin the counter attack, Ailor made a quick move and slotted a perfectly weighted pass through to Freshman phenom, Elih Gomez. Gomez Sprinted to the ball, took two calm at pace touches towards goal with 2 defenders closing on him, and fired the ball past the Tigers GK rattling the back of the net to the lower left corner. The Raiders took a 1-0 advantage with just over 8 minutes remaining in the game. The Raider Defense would remain strong and notch their 6th shutout of the season led by a strong performance by the backline and JR Goalkeeper, Marshall Crowell. The Raiders moved to 11-5-3 on the season, captured their 6th straight Sectional 7 title, and will travel to Hamilton Southeastern to face off against the Royals in the Regional Semis this coming Thursday evening at 6pm. Let's go Raiders!
