The Raiders opened Sectional 7 action Tuesday evening over at Ellison Field at McCutcheon. The Raiders are attempting to win their 6th sectional championship in a row in order to advance to next weeks regional. Their 1st opponent, Logansport, were ready to come in and give the Raiders a challenge. The contest went back and forth between the 18's, but most opportunities and quality chances coming from the Raiders through the first 40 minutes of action. 0-0 was the halftime score. About 15 minutes into the 2nd half Logansport got in on a counter and capitalized on an opportunity to take a 2nd half lead. The Raiders had a stiff test ahead of them the rest of the way, as they haven't mounted a comeback victory through the entire fall 26' campaign. This is a resilient bunch though, and the squad remained calm and on team task for the rest of the match. Some adjustments were made in formation and personnel to promote some more attack and opportunity. With under 8 minutes to go, Freshman phenom, Elih Gomez netted a left-footed rocket past the keeper off a Russell Weaver assist. The score was deadlocked at 1-1 and would stay that way until the end of regulation. Harrison kept pressing for the W with chances and opportunities in the two 7 minute overtime periods. With under 30 seconds to go, there was a mad scramble in front of the Logansport goal. The ball found Brady Koutsouros's foot, he passed the ball back behind the PK spot to junior captain Wyatt Neal, who hit a left-footed sizzler that busted the right upper corner window. The keeper had no chance! Wyatt's shot rattled the back of the net making it 2-1 with 16.2 seconds remaining and would seal the deal advancing the Raiders to a Thursday night semifinal matchup against Lafayette Jeff. The Bronchos upset McCutcheon in a 3-3 draw advancing on PK's to set up the Thursday evening clash. The Raiders will play the Bronchos at 5pm Thursday evening at Ellison Field. The Raiders move to 9-5-3.
